Plan Pais is an annual conference held by young Venezuelans who live outside their native home. The conference started in 2011 and it discusses the ongoing economic and humanitarian crisis that is going on Venezuela. The conflict has escalated in 2014 with the drop in oil prices and has resulted in food shortages as well as basic staples such as toilet paper.
The conference ran for three days and had 12 committees that discussed issues that ranged from the future of the Petroleum sector to Economic Development and the transfer of the "know how", a term coined by Professor Ricardo Hausmann, Director of the Center for International Development and a professor of the practice of Economic Development at the John F. Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University who attended the conference. I participated in the Committee on Foreign Policy, moderated by Michael McCarthy, Professor at the Elliot School of International Affairs at the George Washington University. I benefitted greatly in this event as I came to realize the stark similarities that we share with Venezuela and its people, and how the U.A.E. can benefit and learn from the mistakes that happened and continue to happen in Venezuela.
